HEALTH BENEFITS OF CANOLA
Don't change your diet, change your oil
Canola is the best oil in terms of fat content, when looked at in totality: lowest saturated fat, very high MUFA, very high Omega-3, best balancing ratio of Omega-6 to Omega-3, zero trans fats. No other oil offers this unique combination of fats!
- Canola has the lowest content, among all oils, of saturated fat or 'bad' fat (see chart). Saturated fat, above essential levels, leads to fatty deposit in arteries, obesity, rise in cholesterol and triglycerides.
- Very high (second highest) content of Monounsaturated Fatty Acid (MUFA), which reduces bad cholesterol (LDL) and triglycerides. High MUFA helps to prevent heart disease, high blood pressure, diabetes and brain haemorrhage.
- Very high content of Omega – 3 Polyunsaturated Fatty Acid (PUFA), which protects against heart disease and stroke.
- Great source of Vitamin E antioxidant (highest among heart-healthy oils), which fights free radical damage and reduces risk of heart disease, cancer and memory loss.
- Beneficial 2:1 content ratio of Omega-6 PUFA to Omega-3 (high intake of Omega-6 is inadvisable), to balance excessive Omega-6 intake in normal, everyday diet. Most other oils have high Omega-6 content.
- Zero trans-fats. Trans fats lower good cholesterol (HDL) and increase bad cholesterol (LDL) as well as total cholesterol.
USFDA NOTIFICATION
The U.S. Food & Drug Administration says: Limited and not conclusive scientific evidence suggests that eating about 1½ tablespoons (19 grams) of canola oil daily may reduce the risk of coronary heart disease due to the unsaturated fat content in canola oil.To achieve this possible benefit, canola oil is to replace a similar amount of saturated fat and not increase the total number of calories you eat in a day.
